The Story of Diamond Lures: American Woodie and Sierra Leone

For the past 13 years American Woodie’s love for adventure and fishing has led him to explore the remote and world famous Tarpon Estuaries on Sherbro Island in Sierra Leone. (Home to 10 Tarpon World Records) These estuaries have been largely unexplored for the past 25 years, and Woodie has dedicated himself to rediscovering their beauty and secrets.

In addition to his adventures, Woodie has been working on his entrepreneurial venture called DIAMOND LURES. He has partnered with master lure makers in Sierra Leone to create high-quality fishing lures. All of this while raising his two children as a single father on the island. Despite being an American, Woodie has embraced the African culture and has become a beloved member of the community. He is affectionately called “American Woodie” by the citizens of Africa, and the residents of his Chiefdom consider him their adopted son. His presence in the village has fostered a strong bond based on survival, love, and respect.

American Woodie’s appearance is as captivating as his adventures. He can often be seen sporting American flag tank tops that display his large arm tattoos. With a cowboy hat and a 15-inch Bowie Knife by his side, he exudes a rugged and fearless persona that has made him a legend in Sierra Leone. Visitors to the country often describe him as a wild, American, muscled version of “Crocodile Dundee” who fearlessly embraces every adventure that comes his way.

American Woodie’s story is one of adventure, entrepreneurship, and cultural immersion. He has not only explored the uncharted waters of Sierra Leone but has also created a thriving business and formed deep connections with the local community. Through his actions and spirit, American Woodie has become an inspiration for those who seek adventure, pursue their passions, and embrace different cultures.
